The most relevant contemporary dance productions from Romania will be presented this April at the National Center for Dance Bucharest. Emerging and established creators have been invited to submit their works, which will be showcased to the general public and industry professionals.
The National Center for Dance Bucharest (CNDB) announces Dans.Context.Showcase, a project designed to present the most significant contemporary dance works of recent years to an audience of festival programmers from Romania and abroad, members of international networks, and the general public.
The showcase will take place from April 24–27, 2025, featuring a selection of 10–12 dance performances chosen by a jury of seven industry professionals, including independent artists and representatives from dance organizations and institutions: Cristina Lilienfeld, Sandra Mavhima, Mihai Mihalcea, Andreea Novac, Simona Paraschivu, Anna Maria Pop, and Elena Zamfirescu. Additionally, the event will include presentations from local dance spaces (Linotip, Areal, UNATC, Choreography High School) and a roundtable discussion featuring industry professionals and representatives of international dance networks.
Launched at the end of last year, the call for projects targeted artists active in contemporary dance and graduates of specialized master’s programs. The project aims to showcase recent choreographic creations and the Romanian dance scene while fostering a national network of dance festivals and performing arts institutions that promote contemporary dance, in order to develop opportunities for the dissemination of dance performances. The selected performances will be viewed by an audience of theater directors, choreographic center directors, festival organizers, representatives of European dance networks (Aerowaves, Moving Balkans, EDN – European Dance Development Network), curators, educators, cultural managers, and dance producers.
A total of 29 eligible applications were submitted by creators from across the country. The selected works will be announced on February 25, 2025.
Event co-financed by AFCN. The project does not necessarily represent the position of the Administration of the National Cultural Fund. AFCN is not responsible for the content of the project or how the results of the project may be used. These are entirely the responsibility of the grantee.
