The CNDB’s Contemporary Archive brings together materials documenting contemporary dance performances and recurrent actions produced/co-produced/hosted by the National Center for Dance Bucharest, from its official establishment (2004) to the present. The beneficiaries are mainly professionals in the field – choreographers, dancers, critics – and those interested in the study of performing arts, history and theory of this field – students, researchers, journalists, independent artists.

– Video collection – video material in analogue and digital format documenting over 500 performances and performance actions

– Media Fund – more than 600 posters, flyers, brochures and other information material in both print and digital format

CNDB Contemporary Archive – Video Fund

Info

The CNDB archive contains a historical fund of unpublished documents on the history of Romanian contemporary dance in the 20th century, which recovers important parts of the work of choreographers, dancers, choreographic artistic collectives and maps the institutions that produced, hosted and promoted contemporary dance performances.

The materials in the documentary collection are owed to the efforts made by the National Center for Dance Bucharest through a series of research projects, partnerships with institutional or private archives, by searching for the best solutions to archive, recontextualize and reflect on the updating of the history of Romanian contemporary dance. Private archives of choreographers and dancers such as Stere Popescu, Miriam Răducanu, Ioan Tugearu, Trixy Checais, Lizica Codreanu, Vera Proca-Ciortea, Iris Barbura or Floria Capsali re-create the history of modern dance in Romania.

The documentary collection contains various types of documents from 1900 to 2004:

  • Fund of photographs of choreographers, dancers, dance performances.
  • Video collection – archive films about the audio-visual history of Romanian dance.
  • Fund of programme notebooks, posters and dance recitals reviews.
  • Fund of official documents and documents on artistic activity: contracts, castings, repertoires, correspondence.
  • Fund of scripts and pedagogical collections of dance theory and practice – courses, manuals and analytical programmes.
