About IRIDESCENT Festival
Like every year, November becomes IRIDESCENT.
Iridescent – international festival of contemporary dance and other reconfigurations of the sensible – emphasizes the transformative power of dance to bring new worlds into being.
This festival was created with the idea that movement and the body are tools that can revolutionize, that have the capacity to build and imagine better futures. Through dance, we build bridges between spaces and worlds and provoke new ways of thinking and dialog, new paths of exploration and understanding, and discover new perspectives on the world.
Through Iridescent we connect artistic worlds from different geographical spaces and place Bucharest on the map of international dance festivals, but above all we offer the public the opportunity to see valuable creations relevant to today’s artistic and socio-political contexts.
The multitude of iridescences of ever-changing realities is reflected in the consistency of all editions. In the festival program intersect:
- valuable international productions spotted on the international performing arts scene
- the latest creations by Romanian choreographers and dancers
- exhibitions, installations & film screenings
- workshops & conferences
- a marathon of statements and messages: Ideas for Planet Earth
Instead of a single festival theme, which would force the presentation of performances aligned and disciplined by a single will, we bring diverse contents and formats that look beyond the grand narratives. We therefore propose subjectivities that relate to personal micro-histories, in order to bring to the surface the myriad iridescences of the same ever-changing realities.
Iridescence occurs when a surface changes color as a reflection of light in the presence of liquid particles. It is visible in some animals, some minerals and in the plant kingdom. As a way of understanding the world, iridescence becomes a navigational tool, guiding and shaping thought. Thus, the surface is no longer perceived as a mere boundary, but as a shimmering place of convergence of insoluble multiplicities (apud. Tavi Meraud. An iridescent thinking moves through different sets of possibilities and realities, traces and examines the twists and connections.
