Info

The National Center for Dance Bucharest (CNDB) offers you a meeting space where differences such as age, social status, training, knowledge and experience are being suspended, and dance becomes the binder that aims at bringing very different types of people together. “Courtyard Dances” is a project in which the yard of CNDB’s location on Mărășești Blvd. is rearranged to host over 40 artists who will propose events that range from contemporary dance and performance to live music, visual arts and poetry.

On September 18, two projects meet, resonate and create an accumulation of emotional, sensory, motor and relational information.

The first part hosts the Sensuum-lab workshops. Each participant is invited to rediscover new opportunities to dance, but also to feel, to handle objects and to create the first actions that later build behaviours.

The second part involves a discussion between Mădălina Dan and the [M]others team in the What (still) moves us format. A transdisciplinary team of seven mother artists, plus a daughter artist, will perform with Mădălina.

FIRST PART: SENSUUM-LAB

Sense of movement: 11:00-11:50
Intergenerational movement workshop led by Valentina De Piante. Mothers and fathers, children and grandparents, from 2 to 80 years old, can rediscover living movement, spontaneous movement and rhythmic movement. They will borrow a body of their choice, for pleasure, play, ecstasy or power. Those who do not want to participate in the engine, have the opportunity to sit on the bleachers, as observers.

Touch sense: 12:00 – 13:00
Next, we propose two simultaneous workshops: one for touch (in the foyer space) and one for crafts (outside). In the foyer: Touching Matter, tactile workshop led by Mădălina Dan. In the yard: clay workshop for children and adults, led by Oana Băluța.

Tasting and olfactory sense: 13:00-14:00
Everyone will taste the food prepared by the whole team of [m]others and grandmothers moment coordinated by Loredana Larionescu and Diana Spiridon. At first Valentina will lead a food meditation.

PART TWO: WHAT WE (MOST) MOVE 14: 00-16: 00

Mădălina Dan, within the format What (still) moves us, invites the artists from the [M]others project. Simultaneously, in the foyer, there will be a sleeping area for the little ones to rest. In the main hall, after a moment of discussions led by Mădălina, the performative part prepared by the entire team [M]others will take place.

Work-in-progress performative presentation following [M]others residencies

Mothers perform bodies borrowed from others. They also performs the daughters, who too soon became the mothers of others.

[M]others, the mothers of others, are aware that what they do will transform them from one end to the other within own being, into thoughts, emotions, and deeds; in their own skin; in the center of their heart, in the courage to give themselves completely.

In total sincerity, like a whirlwind of cosmic energy, they restore the force of the ritual of life and death. They show themselves beyond conventions, fears and appearances and good roles strangled by authority. They let go of what cannot be seen or heard, without arousing value judgments, disapproval, madness. By acting with the freedom and curiosity of untouched children, they give more strength to souls.

[M]others is a contemplative-transgressive act dedicated to all parts of us who have been inhibited from action and forced into silence. Mothers are a community out of time: they – the present – are connected to their grandmothers – the past and to their children – the future.

The performative presentation invites all those present to a participatory moment.
