Info
Emerging from years of self-induced amnesia, Stefania reveals the overwhelming memories of her childhood, spent in Romanian hospitals due to a misdiagnosis. Today, at around 30 years of age, she tries to reconnect with her estranged body and her inner child, Nia, through dance. This becomes a new language on the path to healing her wounds and her relationship with her mother.
Director’s note
Both Stefania and I are originally from Romania and met in France, where we live and work as artists. For me, she embodies the spirit of our generation, those who are not satisfied with answers from the outside world—whether from doctors or family—and who seek a certain meaning within themselves. For many years, Ștefania ran away from her past, trying to erase her childhood memories, developing several forms of extreme anxiety—exacerbated by loneliness—hypochondria being just one of them. I was fascinated by her struggle to come to terms with her childhood, not only intellectually, but also physically, through her body, art, and imagination. This inspired me to create a film that looks at healing and the different paths it can take. The film captures a fragment of a process that lasts a lifetime.
