Geometry of chance workshop
- Workshop de dans contemporan
29.08–02.09 | 17:00 – 20:00

Info
If you have at least two years of body-based practice and/or experience in contemporary dance, if you enjoy dancing and have taken dedicated dance classes, and if you are interested in exploring ideas and possibilities through movement, we invite you to join the Geometry of Chance free workshop, led by choreographers Sonja Stojanović, Tomy Lee Kneringer and Victor Saiz at CNDB.
Description
Random.
A word we often use to describe something unexpected — something without logic or visible pattern. A casual “whatever” in response to the unplanned. A decision made without overthinking. Something that simply happens. Some call it chance.
But what is chance, really?
Is it an invisible system operating beyond our perception?
Or is it pure unpredictability — something we can never fully control?
This five-day workshop invites you to join the research process of dance artists Sonja Stojanović and Tomy Lee Kneringer and explore the themes of randomness and decision-making through movement.
Together, we will experiment with playful compositional tools and group-based creative methods to generate dance material. We will question how decisions are made in the moment, how patterns emerge, and how unpredictability can become a powerful creative partner. We will conclude the workshop with a work in progress presentation.
If you enjoy moving — regardless of your style or experience — and feel comfortable sharing your ideas within a creative process, we would love to meet you.
About the project
Geometry of Chance explores the idea of chance through movement and sound. Often described as randomness, chance may also reveal hidden systems that influence decisions and emerging patterns. The project investigates how unpredictability/chance can become a creative partner within artistic practice.
Through a performative approach combining dance and sound, the team will experiment with compositional methods that connect structured choreography and improvisation, exploring the tension between control and chaos.
The project develops a methodology that combines decision-making methods inspired by neurological processes with the machine learning model Markov Chain, transforming a duet into a group performance. Each presentation involves a core team consisting of a dance duet and a musician, working together with local dancers.
