Info
In the past millennium, the Pioneer 10 and 11 space probes were launched into space on March 3, 1972 and April 5, 1973. The probes contained a plaque with a pictorial message to potential extraterrestrial beings who might find them. The plaque graphically depicts two anatomical figures: a male and a female. The male figure raises his right hand up in greeting. The female figure stands with her arms at her sides. Also in the last millennium, on August 20 and September 5, 1977, the Voyager 2 and 1 probes were launched into space together with a golden disk containing sounds and images considered representative of planet Earth.
Neither of the two programs to explore space and try to contact extraterrestrial life include the diversity of Earth’s genome, using only the binary model of it.
As we speak, the sounders are still crossing the cosmos.
“Cosmic Chronicles: Body and the Mythology of Gender” is an audio-visual performative epic based on interdisciplinary research, exploring the historical, social and cultural roots of gender identity and sowing hope for a fluid future.
