Between December 5 and 8, a team composed of Melanie Brierley, Helen Gould, and four participants with Parkinson’s will have a residency in Bucharest, offering educational workshops for local specialists and participants, as well as a performance.
Biographies
Helen Gould – M.B.E., MSc Dance Science and Education (University of Edinburgh), co-founder of LPM Dance UK, brings over ten years of expertise in dance with people living with Parkinson’s, contributing with an empathetic and innovative approach to developing choreographic formats and workshops based on improvisation and empathetic connection, enhancing creativity and participant autonomy.
Melanie Brierley PhD) -Artist/ Researcher/ Trainer/ Lecturer at ‘Conscious Bodies’, ISMETA accredited, specialist in somatic dance for people with neurological conditions and member of Dance and Parkinson’s UK for nearly a decade, supports the project through training, consultancy, coordinating job shadowing, and facilitating advanced workshops as part of the continuation of the ParkinsOn Dance program.
Romanian experts participating in this exchange include specialists in dance therapy, psychotherapy, and neuromotor rehabilitation: Dr. Bianca Nițu (Neuristica Clinic), psychotherapist and dance therapist Loredana Larionescu (co-founder of Asociația Entuziart), and choreographer/dance therapist in training Irina Marinescu.

For artists and therapists, dance communities, and individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
The workshop explores the relationship between music, visual imagery, and the concept of “entrainment.” Helen uses music and visual imagery as catalysts for artistic expression and group connection, basing her practice on research into the role of music and movement for people living with Parkinson’s.
December 7
3:00–4:30 p.m. – @CNDB, Main Hall – Workshop with Melanie Brierley
For artists and therapists, dance communities, and individuals with Parkinson’s disease.
The workshop focuses on somatically-informed dance and movement practice, exploring imaginal and nature-inspired themes, such as landscapes and “bodyscapes.” These practices and ideas have been key in Melanie’s work with people with Parkinson’s in the Empowering Voices project at the University of Lancashire and in her doctoral research.
5:00 p.m. – @CNDB, Main Hall, Seascapes performance (followed by Q&A)
Produced in Romanian-British collaboration, with the participation of 10–15 performers (artists and people with Parkinson’s), promoting artistic and social integration.

Informal round table – debriefing within the project team, discussions and conclusions, exchange of experiences.
