Mind the Map! History is not given! A Critical Anthology based on the Symposium, eds. Marina Gržinić (Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna), Günther Heeg and Veronika Darian (Institute of Theater Studies, University of Leipzig), 2006.
This month’s recommended book draws our attention, both by its title and its content, to the fact that history is not a given, that there are continuous dislocations in the construction of social and geopolitical histories that affect us, but in which we can be active participants by reconfiguring maps and networks of dialog and mutual understanding of the values that connect us. The result of the symposium of the same name, which took place in 2005 in Leipzig, the studies published in the book belong to researchers and theorists interested in drawing a map that aims to interconnect the artistic space of Eastern and Western Europe, the stake being the creation of a platform (EAST ART Map) that systematizes and (re)constructs possible ways of reflection and action in both the cultural and political arenas.
