Info
The National Center for Dance Bucharest, together with Vellant Publishing House, launches the book “Radical Bodies in Contemporary Performances” by Mihaela Michailov, a publication that also opens the editorial collection “Performative Studies”.
The book aims to identify and explore important moments in the Western history of contemporary theater and dance, visiting some of the most relevant and controversial performances of the ’70s,’ 80s and ’90s, with a focus on representations of the body, exposed in contexts which radicalizes his presence.
Without claiming to be an exhaustive analysis, Radical Bodies in Contemporary Performances is rather an applied study of points of connection and convergence, of correspondences and ruptures that define approaches that are often difficult to label and, therefore, exciting through the questions it generates.
The book is structured in three chapters that follow the transformations of the representation of bodies in THEATER, PERFORMANCE and DANCE, representations shaped by relevant social and political transformations: from Artaud and Mayerhold, passing through Grotowski to Castellucci, Angélica Liddell, but also the Romanian theater; from Marina Abramović, Orlan or Gina Pane, to Ana Mendieta, but also the Romanian performance before and immediately after 90; from Pina Bauch to Sacha Waltz, Maria La Ribot, or Vera Mantero, Jérôme Bel, Xavier le Roy, but also Romanian contemporary dance.
The event will be streamed live on the CNDB Facebook page (click here).
