Tangaj Collective, The National Center for Dance Bucharest (CNDB), Goethe-Institut România and Instituto Italiano de Cultura Bucarest invite the audience to an open laboratory session of the interdisciplinary performative project The Choreography of Water, on April 6th, starting 7.30 PM at CNDB

Choreographer and filmmaker Simona Deaconescu (RO), visual artist Ioana Vreme Moser (DE/RO), and sound artist Simina Oprescu (DE/RO) bring their futuristic and uncanny universes together in The Choreography of Water. The newest Tangaj Collective production critically addresses water movement from the oceans to the body. The performance explores our bodies as fluid territories, where human and non-human worlds meet, inviting audiences to rethink the political implications of water flows.

In a dance show scheduled to premiere in early October at CNDB, four dancers will interact with a series of water-based sculptures to generate sound, exploring the relationship between movement and fluid computing—a form of computation that emulates the natural rhythms of the planet through water streams. As the sculptures’ sounds are amplified and enriched, they transform into immersive sonic landscapes, becoming dynamic instruments for the performers to explore and manipulate.

For three weeks, in March and April, the three artists worked alongside four dancers selected through an audition—Silvia Brazzale (IT), Chelsea Reichert (USA/DE), Laura Murariu (BE/RO), Ada Anghel (RO), for an exploration laboratory with the purpose of testing different prototypes of interaction between the movement of the dancers, water and sound. At the end of the process, the artistic team welcomes artists, scientists, researchers, cultural workers, and the general public to a work-in-progress presentation, aiming to gather honest and personalized feedback.

In this open laboratory—an event Tangaj Collective hosts annually for its upcoming productions—the audience is invited to a relaxed introduction to the show’s concept, the artists’ creative methods, and a brief performative glimpse into the atmosphere of the future show. The open lab session is organized in partnership with Marginal and Qolony, cultural organizations that frequently produce and promote art and science projects.
