Duration: 40 min.

Belonging Bodies explores, through text and movement, the sense of belonging to an unfamiliar space and the way in which the body can recognize a place before the mind understands it. Starting from the experience of an inexplicable sense of familiarity with a place visited for the first time, the work investigates the questions: How can an unfamiliar space feel more like home than one’s own home? and How does the sensation of “home” manifest in the body?

The piece explores the relationship between belonging to a space and belonging to one’s own body, establishing a dialogue between memory, perception, and presence. By combining text and movement, the work offers a reflection on the boundary between the familiar and the unknown and on how the body can discover a new sense of “home.”

The work also questions the choreographer’s own sense of belonging within the artistic field, raising questions about the criteria required for an artist to be considered a “true” artist and about the role assigned to them.

Did she fall         or         was she pushed?

Your T-shirt     on         my chair

Your T-shirt     on         my chair

I’ll be      with you      I’ll be       there

I’ll never      leave you      ever

Your T-shirt      on         my chair

Come here,    little girl.          Come on        —get in    the car

It’s a         brand-new Cadillac.           Bright red.      Come here                little girl

Hey!      Haven’t I             seen you              somewhere before?

Your              despair             in my heart.                                Bright red

Your                   words                 in my ears

I’ll be                with you. I’ll be              there. I’ll never                leave you            .

––– from Bright Red, Laurie Anderson

Biographies

Teodora Tudose is a choreographer and performer, a graduate of the bachelor’s and master’s programs in Choreographic Art at the “I. L. Caragiale” National University of Theater and Cinematography (U.N.A.T.C.) in Bucharest, and the founder of Imprevizibil.
She is interested in dramatic and poetic writing, seeking to organically combine movement and words in her creations. In terms of movement style and means of expression in contemporary dance, she emphasizes the use of gestures and evocative visual imagery—an approach she seeks to further explore in her works.
Her most recent project of this kind is Femina – Dancing Communities, which culminates in the performance Femina Vox, for which she developed the concept, choreography, and text.
Other important works for which she has choreographed include Best regards, wishing you well, Love Me for Five Minutes, We Need to Talk, and Influences.
She has collaborated extensively with various associations, theaters, and institutions both nationally and internationally, through which she has gained vast experience in the field of contemporary dance.

Daiana Sargan was born in Sibiu and, for a long time, worked with the written word in its various forms. In 2017, in Rome, she began acting in film and, later, in Bucharest (2021–present). Her works have been presented in Berlin at the Mazzoli Gallery (Sonnomatik Space alongside Shingo Inao and Motoya Kondo), Spazzio In Utero (“the chair”) in Tokyo, at Cyprus Studio—run by dancer Yasuhiko Takeuchi—and at House Kogane (“the other chair”) in Nagoya, as well as at Atelier 35 in Bucharest (“how I did photosynthesis 2020–2022”), /sac Berthelot (“skillful hands, but can’t hold water”), etc.
