Info

The National Centre for Dance in Bucharest (CNDB) is turning up the volume for International Dance Day and launching Dansoteca, a marathon of movement and connections that will break you out of your routine.

The space and dance floor transform into a choreographic playground with four workshops featuring different styles and energies: from improvisation to street influences and reinterpreted iconic references. And when the workshops end, no one goes home because the party begins with a DJ set by Sillyconductor & Rekabu.

It doesn’t matter if this is your first time or if you’re already familiar with contemporary dance. Dansoteca isn’t just an event—it’s a great excuse to move, meet people, and be part of a community that knows that sometimes the best way to communicate is simply to dance. It’s not about performance. It’s about allowing yourself to enter a space where, for a few hours, movement becomes a simple and direct way of being.

About the workshops

Enter The Flux | George Pleșca
Time: 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
This workshop aims to create a space where technical skills can be easily applied and adapted within an improvised setting, taking into account the relationship between space, time, and partner.
Participants will be introduced to various ground movement techniques and tools inspired by contemporary dance, martial arts, and capoeira. Subsequently, they will be guided through various situations where improvisation will serve as the driving force, and imagination and play will build upon the physical foundation studied in the first stage.

It Takes Two | Iulia Andro & Mihai Petrin
Time: 4:30 – 5:30 PM
We work through dialogue and collaboration to create choreographic structures, and this workshop explores that process. We blend street dance styles (house, hip-hop, popping) with principles of contemporary dance to build choreographic material. The relationship with music is essential: we transform sounds into movement and integrate them into the creation of choreographic phrases, using tools from our own creative process.

Dancing through rep | Laura Murariu
Time: 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
This workshop will take you on a journey through the world of the piece Fase, Four Movements to the Music of Steve Reich, choreographed by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker. It is a piece I have danced myself, and I will be happy to share it in an intense session of mind-focused work. We will explore the principles of the piece and learn some of the ways in which the phrases are created, and then, of course, we will play with them to the music.

Waacking Workshop | Waana Neagu
Time: 7:30–8:30 p.m.
This waacking workshop is a dynamic experience that combines technique, expressiveness, and the cultural context of the style. Starting from waacking’s origins in the underground clubs of Los Angeles as a form of expression for the LGBTQ+ communities, participants will explore essential elements such as musicality, attitude, and freedom of expression. The workshop emphasizes developing a personal voice in dance, encouraging authenticity, confidence, and connection with the music and with others.

Party | DJ Set: Sillyconductor & Rekabu
Time: 8:30 PM – 10:00 PM
The dance floor is just an excuse; genres become negotiable in the improvised b2b DJ sets by Rekabu and Sillyconductor, where leftfield disco slips in unannounced into rhythms drawn from entirely different latitudes, stoically juggling between the periphery, the epicenter, and extravagance.

Admission is free, and each workshop is an invitation to play with movement and discover new ways of being in your body, of dancing with yourself and others. You can participate in one or more workshops. Participation is limited to available space (maximum 20 people per workshop). To register, please fill out the form available HERE.
