Between 12 and 14 December 2022, the National Center for Dance Bucharest is organizing the fourth edition of the “Three-Day Laboratory”, a program designed to maintain and intensify the dialogue and the collective process of reflection, while supporting artists (especially young ones) in their creative process. The Laboratory proposes an extension of the dialogue with the performing arts community through presentations by several specialists from different disciplines and areas of activity.
In this year’s edition we propose the following theme/issue for discussion and collective reflection: Art and communities. Within this broad theme, the Laboratory will address the following issues:
- What is a community? What are the defining features of a community?
- How does a community develop/grow?
- What types of communities exist?
- What is community art?
- Community art projects: case studies
- Ethics, representation, power dynamics in the context of community art
- Interactions between art and civil society
- Collaborative and participatory practices in community art
Through the proposed program, the current edition of the three-day laboratory places the need to stimulate and develop critical thinking at the center of attention and calls for the need to realize that “all art is political”, in the sense that art implies having a critical perspective on society and social realities, creating directly or indirectly public discourse and consciously participating in the transformation of power relations in society. The workshop will be attended by Veda Popovici – political artist, committed theorist and activist, Constantin Vică – Lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Bucharest and Deputy Director of the Centre for Research in Applied Ethics, Rucsandra Pop – writer, anthropologist and activist, Ionela Pădure – teacher of Romanian language and activist. The workshop includes, in the first part of each day, a movement workshop coordinated by choreographer Beniamin Boar.
