Info

Hollow embodies the shared hallucinations Viktor Szeri, Tamás Páll, and Gyula Muskovics. The three artists have been creating immersive performances, experiences and installations in theaters and galleries in Budapest and other European cities since 2018, merging the methodologies of contemporary dance with live-action role-play, cutting-edge technology, and media art.

In Baby, they reflect on the art collective they formed seven years ago. At the center of the piece is their virtual offspring, inviting the audience on a journey to Phoenix, an imaginary darkroom where Hollow was born. In other words, Baby takes us back to the very first moment, when everything is still formless and can become anything. It is the latest in a series of projects that view art-making as world-making. In addition to revealing the complex universe of Hollow, the performance imagines how a work of art might speak to its creators if it could.

Biography

Hollow embodies the shared hallucinations of dancer/choreographer Viktor Szeri, media artist/game designer Tamás Páll, and curator/writer Gyula Muskovics. They have been creating immersive environments and cross-reality experiences since 2018, merging the methodologies of contemporary dance with sound, game mechanics, cutting-edge technology, poetics, media art, augmented reality, virtual reality, and live-action role-play. Their artworks are “world prototypes” where they call into question the dominant regimes of consensual reality. In the past, they have provided access in various forms, in off-sites, theatres, galleries, and festivals across Europe, to the land of obscurity, investigating topics and contexts such as queer cruising, the hyperspace, millennial cults, the radicalization of the gamer subculture, eco-anxiety, nature as a black box, and walking as a psychoactive substance.

The presentation is the result of the MODINA residency. The Movement, Digital Intelligence and Interactive Audience (MODINA) project aims to expand the creative possibilities of contemporary dance performances and enhance the audience experience with digital technology – with a focus on exploring artificial intelligence (AI) and audience interaction, on-site and online. The project partners are 3 academic institutions and 5 dance centers from 6 countries.

The MODINA project is co-funded by the European Union through the Creative Europe program. The views and opinions expressed are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
