Info

GONG is a meditation on the hidden forces that shape us — an invitation to remember that the true “gong” — the source of resilience, joy, and renewal — resonates not outside of us, but within ourselves: in the body, in the breath, in the silent space between moments.

The performance addresses the journey through the cycle of life, from birth to adulthood, capturing the universal human experience in a bodily narrative. The author delves into the complexities of self-formation, shaped by societal pressures and external expectations.

Inspired by the mythological structures of Joseph Campbell, the psychological landscapes of Carl Jung, existential psychology, the poetic imagination of Ursula K. Le Guin, and the ancestral storytelling voice of Clarissa Pinkola Estés, the performance invites us into introspection, into a place we do not know by name, yet have always known.

Biography

Filiz Bozkuş Al is a multidisciplinary artist of Taiwanese and Turkish descent who grew up in Turkey. She studied Philosophy and was active in theater during her university years. In 2011, she co-founded Boş Sahne in Istanbul, adapting works by Ursula K. Le Guin and Franz Kafka into solo performances. A workshop with Butoh-based artist Iida Shigemi deeply shaped her artistic path. She later assisted him internationally and began dancing. After an eight-year break for motherhood, she premiered GONG in 2022, co-created with her husband Kerem Al. The performance earned her the 2023 “Actress of the Year” award in Izmir, Turkey.  She continues to lead workshops and create new performances exploring the holistic unity of body, mind, and soul.
