Mădălina Dan invites you to a four-day open-studio research at CNDB that aims, in the first instance, to share older performative practices and the recent creative process. This framework also wants to be an opportunity to meet dancers and performers from the dance community in order to collaborate for the future production supported by the National Center for Dance Bucharest which has the working period set for February, March and April.
The new direction of research revolves around the term “pharmakon” (in medical/pharmaceutical, ethical and philosophical interpretation), the theme of physical and mental health, the contradiction and intersection between beneficial and harmful treatments for the body, mind, soul, and of antagonistic healing modalities.
Physicality is the main point of interest, more precisely the connection between corporeality, emotion, vocal and verbal expression, working with physical and psychological limits and intensities, with bodily and behavioral contradictions. With these elements, Mădălina Dan aims to develop a specific body language, generated from physical themes treated in improvisation and in group choreographic scores. Also, a continuous interest, which migrates from other performances and artistic processes is constituted by: the relationship between body and language, the association between physical and verbal expression, writing text from physical experience, the relationship between life and work/art, between personal/biographical and professional/performative.
Within the collaboration, the artist seeks to work on the generation (through text and choreography) of personal stories and realities that find their place in a more global narrative, to question the relevance in a more general plan of subjective artistic approaches.
Alienation, social estrangement, information and technological influx and behavioral changes, illness-related anxiety, physical and mental exhaustion, humor as a survival strategy, are some of the keywords and research topics that will generate work material.
