Info

A performance conceived by choreographer Vava Ștefănescu, dedicated to the Year of Constantin Brâncuși and the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great artist. The performance draws on one of the lesser-known stories from the Brâncuși universe: the collaboration between Constantin Brâncuși and dancer and choreographer Lizica Codreanu. In 1922, Brâncuși created a special costume for her and invited her to dance among the sculptures in his studio, to the music of Erik Satie. He photographed the moment in seven images that have since become precious testimonies to the encounter between sculpture and dance.

Inspired by these photographs, Lizica Codreanu’s dance was reconstructed by Vava Ștefănescu in 1995 for a documentary dedicated to Brâncuși. In 2014, it became the starting point for the performance Reenacting Lizica Codreanu, created together with students from the Bucharest Choreography High School. This year, the story continues with a new reinterpretation, developed alongside the children of the Performing Arts School for Children, who carry forward the spirit of experimentation and freedom that defined the encounter between Brâncuși and Lizica Codreanu.
