Belonging Bodies

Belonging Bodies explores, through text and movement, the feeling of belonging to an unfamiliar space and the ways in which the body can recognize a place before the mind can understand it. Starting from the experience of an inexplicable sense of familiarity with a place visited for the first time, the work investigates the questions: How can an unfamiliar space feel more like home than one’s own home? and How does the sensation of “home” manifest in the body?

The piece explores the relationship between belonging to a space and belonging to one’s own body, creating a dialogue between memory, perception, and presence. By combining text and movement, the work reflects on the boundary between the familiar and the unknown, and on the ways in which the body can discover a new sense of “home.”

The work also questions the choreographer’s own sense of belonging within the artistic field, raising questions about the criteria required for an artist to be considered a “true” artist and about the role assigned to them.

TESERACT

TESERACT is the concluding performance work of the Dance and Performance Academy’s Laboratories at the National Dance Centre Bucharest.

Combining text, movement, music, and performativity, the performance transforms memory into a space where past and present meet, and where intimate experiences are reconfigured through the body. Inspired by the narrative structure of Kafka’s Eleven Sons, with texts by Iustin Danalache and reinterpretations of extracts from Mircea Cărtărescu’s Solenoid, yet rooted in a deeply personal process, the work reflects on the ways in which identity is shaped by the traces left by our relationship with the father figure, seeking to make visible the processes through which these traces continue to exist within us.

Drawing from a personal archive of memories, experiences, and biographical fragments, the work constructs five embodiments of the same “son,” each representing a distinct way of relating to emotional confusion, stress, psychological exhaustion, rebellion, and bodily fragility.
