“Emerging Movements, New Grammars” kicks off with a series of six previews of performances created by the young artists who participated in the CNDB Academy of Dance and Performance Laboratories, 2025–2026 edition. Conceived as a natural continuation of the Academy’s training and research process, the initiative brings to the public works that lie at the intersection of experimentation, choreographic research, and stage practice.
Academy of Dance and Performance Laboratories offered participants an intensive setting for exploring the body, movement, choreographic composition, and performative practices, with an emphasis on the production of knowledge, analysis, and reflection, as well as on the development of their own artistic perspectives. The program is designed for emerging artists and aims to provide them with the tools necessary to generate and realize their own ideas and to develop a distinct voice in contemporary dance.
In “Emerging Movements, New Grammars”, the research initiated in the labs takes a step further and transforms into original choreographic works. To arrive at the stage production presented to the public, the artists continued to work on the material developed during the Academy, benefiting from individual mentoring sessions and guidance from experienced choreographers and professionals. Thus, the process does not end with the workshop but continues through testing, revision, refinement, and staging.
The CNDB aims to provide young artists with a professional framework for experimentation and the development of original works. In a context where Romanian contemporary dance is undergoing a process of consolidation, and resources dedicated to research and production remain limited, such working environments create the necessary conditions for the emergence of new artistic practices, ideas, and voices.
The six previews thus mark not an endpoint, but an important stage in a broader process. They bring to light the results of a period of research and reflection, opening the works up to an encounter with the public while also offering the artists the opportunity to observe, test, and further develop their own choreographic proposals.
Through this first series of presentations, “Emerging Movements, New Grammars” offers a space for what is still in the making: bodies seeking new ways to move, ideas constructing their own forms, and artists in the process of defining their language.
