Dance meets animation

Masterclass held by Jean-Charles Mbotti Malolo

11 Octomber, 18:00

Masterclass – Jean-Charles Mbotti Malolo

A journey into the world of the French-Cameroonian artist, dancer, animator and filmmaker, and an exploration of the interaction between dance, animation, sign language and documentary film.
Among his films, the internationally acclaimed “The Sense of Touch” (2014) is the perfect example of the link between dance and animation. His 2018 short film “Make It Soul”, an homage to African-American music, was nominated for a César Award in 2020.

Jean-Charles Mbotti Malolo finds it hard to talk about his work without going through the background that has guided him to where he is today. So this masterclass will show how he accepted at first to be a multidisciplinary artist, to finally understand, not long ago, that dance and drawing are one and the same, at least for him, a form of storytelling. Jean-Charles will try to guide the audience through his process and the experiences he has had in trying to learn how to tell stories.
