On Anger

In her solo “On Anger”, Anna Konjetzky explores the emotion as an individual feeling and as a state produced by societal structures. A whole arsenal of personal, political, and pop culture gestures of anger are dissected and declined.

Huby slows down, fragments, rhythms, stretches the movements, giving them unexpected beauty and elegance, as if stepping out of herself and observing them under a microscope, only to rage and break out the next moment.

Images of revolt, protest, and demonstration appear, which the dancer writes herself into, tries them on, and makes them her own. Anger is also a constructive force, a motor and driver of societal change. Iconic gestures – the raised fist of the Black civil rights movement, the crossed wrists, the middle finger – herald the storming of unjust conditions, an attack on power, on existing hierarchies and structures.
