“Val and the Citadel of Souls” is the first contemporary dance performane with/for children of all ages, produced by the National Dance Center of Bucharest, and it is inspired by the book with the same title, written by Ana Alfianu and published in 2017 by Humanitas Publishing House. The performance tells the story of an initiation journey of children of all ages, who go in search of the City of Souls.

The book is performed through two environments, the spectators being greeted by a contemporary art installation, like a map of the journey, which they have to cross before entering the performance hall.

This montage has been created from the performances that took place in December 2019 and January 2020. The film focused on bringing the online audience exactly what we are missing the most right now – closeness, and tried to maintain the spirit and excitement of the performance to invite the public to see it live as soon as possible.

The show has an exceptional cast: seven students from the Performative School for Children from CNDB, along with professional dancers. Choreographer Vava Ștefănescu (concept and choreography) collaborated with Vlaicu Golcea (original music), Cristina Milea (costumes, scenography, installation), Mihai Păcurar (video), Ana Alfianu (drawings) and Catrinel Catană (choreography assistant).

Along with Val – in this edition Maia Axinte (10 years old) – we invite you to go on a journey in which you will meet the Protecting Dwarves, the Malila turtle or the Ooo dragon!
