The 2021 edition of the CNDB Awards is not just a formal celebration for the recognition of those who contribute to the development of choreographic culture. Therefore, this year’s event also includes the second edition of the “Three Days Laboratory”, a format designed to maintain and intensify the dialogue and collective process of reflection to support artists in their creative process.

The first edition of the “Three Days Laboratory” took place at the beginning of 2021, when, in the midst of a pandemic, due to the imposition of physical distance and new working and presentation conditions, we all felt the unprecedented pressure to move our artistic content online. Some of us have found unexplored opportunities to reach new audiences. Others have intuited the pitfalls of resisting the temptation to feed digital algorithms with new data before better understanding the implications of moving from one environment to another and the consequences of these changes.

In this context, CNDB initiated the “Three Days Laboratory” to reflect on the new trends that were felt long before the onset of the current pandemic, but which accelerated and even exacerbated with the health crisis. We then had Anca Bucur, Simona Deaconescu, Alexandru Dincovici, Raluca Voinea and Constantin Vică as guest contributors. Through their presentations, they exposed issues that are less discussed, brought new perspectives and asked questions that contributed to generate a collective process of reflection, which helps us to position ourselves and make informed decisions about our future creations. To find out what questions we started from, you can visit the link here.

The second edition of the “Three Days Laboratory” invites the dance community to an extension of the dialogue through presentations given by several specialists from different disciplines and areas of activity. In “The Ritualistic Body” Radu Umbreș, an anthropologist interested in cognitive and interdisciplinary approaches to social interaction and human culture, will discuss the body from the perspective of ritual anthropology.

Choreographer Mădălina Dan proposes an extension of her artistic practices in the non-visual tactile environment developed over the last years, which following the experience of the pandemic, led her to a visual and virtual approach and to a re-contextualization of her field of interest. In this context, Mădălina Dan will present to us as a study case, a work-in-progress version of one of her latest creations, “Leather. Surface. Screen”, in which she collaborated with Alina Ușurelu. At the end of the presentation, the choreographer will propose to the participants a discussion that starts from her choreographic practice, but which brings to the center of attention the new possible choreographic forms in relation to the constraints imposed by the pandemic.

Performing arts critic and author Mihaela Michailov will start from the themes set out in her recently published book by CNDB, “Radical Bodies in Contemporary Performances” and will overlap them with some of the issues launched by the laboratory.

Miki Braniște, cultural manager and curator for performing arts and interdisciplinary projects, will focus on economic influences on artistic creation and how creativity comes to be instrumented in a toxic dimension for the cultural environment.

Each day will begin with a practical session proposed by Florin Fieroiu, a choreographer with extensive artistic and pedagogical experience. So, we will be moving together again!

The two days will be followed by the gala awarding the CNDB 2021 Awards.
