Info

“The Archers” by Agnieszka Kryst is inspired by Bydgoszcz’s sculptures, which nowadays are a double symbol of the city: the classical monument “The archers”, by Ferdinand Lepcke, dating back to 1908, in from of the Polish Theater in Bydgoszcz and Marcin Jagodziński-Jagenmeer’s sculpture, revealed in 2013 in front of the Nova Opera House. For both sculptures, the artists used models whose identities are still unknown even today. For choreographer Agnieszka Kryst, the complicated relationship between the artist and his muse, the political character of the aesthetic canons and the sculptural potential of the body became the motivation to work with movement as an instrument for emancipation.

The performance is part of the 4th edition of the “News from Polska” Festival, which will take place during October 8 and October 13, 2019. Organized every other year, this year’s edition of the festival is called “The Choreographic Theories”. The representations and performances chosen for the “News from Polska” program are a selection of the most recent accomplishments of young Polish artists. Viewers will find among them examples of modern art, which do not deny their origins and bring homage to their masters.
