Info

This summer, the National Center for Dance Bucharest (CNDB) becomes a meeting place where differences such as age, social status, training, knowledge and experience are being suspended, and dance is the binder that aims at bringing very different types of people together. CNDB is launching “Courtyard Dances”, a project in which the yard of CNDB’s location on Mărășești Blvd. will be arranged to host over 40 artists who will propose events that range from contemporary dance and performance to live music, visual arts and poetry.

The freedom to choose, to build, to try can be as invigorating for some as it is intimidating for others. The fact that we can intervene in the course of things, that nothing is decided all the way to the end, can give rise to feelings of responsibility and inspiration, as well as confusion or blockage. The intuition that we are on the verge of something completely new and revolutionary and the fear of making a mistake, of losing what we have gathered or what we know reflects something on human nature – the constant need for change and at the same time certainty.

Improvisation in dance faces precisely this paradox: the permanent potential of something new and unique and the risk of always repeating the same language. Thus, improvisation can provoke interest not only as a form of composition, but also for its philosophical and theoretical implications. It can make you think and without any therapeutic pretensions, make you rather reconcile with the contradictory human nature. The confrontation of the mental, emotional and corporal level with the paradoxical aspect of composition through improvisation gives rise to the possibility of broadening the perspectives and at the same time of raising awareness on details and concrete situations.

Thus, we take the liberty of inviting you to something that is as simple as it is complicated. An experiential event in which you are invited to be both participants and spectators.
