In “Daughters”, three young women form a common body with their mothers and grandmothers. A work choreographed by Simona Deaconescu, this is a performance about transformation, told with black humor, at impossible speeds. Three girls on roller skates alter a predetermined chronology, in which their desires are mediated by stories and body images of the two generations that precede them.

The show puts the female body in an extended context, sometimes real, sometimes fictional, in which the birth of each marks an important moment in space and time. They are the daughters of a confused generation, a resilient community, in which reality is never what it seems.

In Daughters there is no present tense, but a perpetual feeling of temporal uncertainty, in an atmosphere of tension and accumulation. The music is signed by Monocube (DE/UA), whose sound universe is a reflection on the contemporary world through analog instruments.

The visual composition, in the form of a tube TV installation, is signed by the artist M. Kardinal (DE) and made by methods that deconstruct the forms, the images becoming distorted and blurred in their play with the subject and the object.

“In Daughters I am interested in exploring that feeling of intimate closeness, in a set-up that can dislocate and amplify the movement. Far from being a pretentious and super-intellectual work, the show has ironic accents and develops in a concert atmosphere on Monocube’s music. Daughters begins in the slowness of my last works and ends at an impossible speed. Roller skates create a parallel speed that introduces the viewer to a dark surreal universe. For me, the three dancers are three cyborgs who explore sexuality, power and freedom, making unexpected leaps in time.” – Simona Deaconescu, choreographer
