Affective Particles invites the public to experiment and play within the shifting environment of probability, light and (un)observed particles. Affective Particles orbits around silver-based holography as an art practice and performance. The ideas are rooted in quantum physics, with a focus on the concept of superposition – the observed behaviour of studied systems as simultaneously inhabiting disjunct states. This concept is extrapolated into an interactive performative installation, featuring Irina Marinescu’s choreography and Sabina Suru’s multimedia installation. The project is organized by the Qolony Association, in partnership with the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics (INFLPR).

Sabina Suru is a multimedia artist and cultural manager, co-founder of the Qolony Association – the Art & Science Colony and the Allkimik Association. Her practice focuses on reactivating obsolete technologies with a focus on silver-based holography and photography. She incorporates elements and concepts from science (Optics, Physics), addressing issues related to identity mutation, objectification, exographic memory and time, through collaborations with practitioners from various fields, such as scientific research, contemporary dance and music.

Irina Marinescu fell in love with contemporary dance in 2009. Since then, she has participated in contemporary dance workshops, Feldenkrais, Viewpoints, Axis Syllabus, Das Theater Feedback Method, Contact improvisation, Gaga, dance and film production workshops with Romanian and foreign professionals. She has worked with The National Dance Center Bucharest and participated at the Cultural Management Academy 2019, is the cofounder of the cultural NGO Developing Art and she is currently an independent artist and cultural manager. She collaborates with artists from various backgrounds to create contexts where authentic connections, experiment and emotions are the main ingredients.

The Qolony Association is a cultural organization from Bucharest, which functions as a generator of links between art, science and technology, through events and projects such as artistic residencies, exhibitions, conferences, artist / scientist talks, research and artistic creation.

The National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics (INFLPR) conducts fundamental and applied research in the field of lasers, the interaction of light with matter, plasma and electron accelerators.
