IRIDESCENT
International festival of contemporary dance and other reconfigurations of the sensible
Info
Like every year, in November we make it possible for new worlds to emerge. In the context of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the National Center for Dance, Iridescent – international festival of contemporary dance and other reconfigurations of the sensible insists on the transformative power of dance.
We create this festival with the idea that movement and the body are tools that can revolutionize, that have the capacity to build and imagine better futures. Through dance, we build bridges between spaces and worlds and provoke new ways of thinking and dialog, new paths of exploration and understanding, and discover new perspectives on the world.
Through Iridescent we connect artistic worlds from different geographical spaces and place Bucharest on the map of international dance festivals, but above all we offer the Bucharest audience valuable creations relevant to the current artistic and socio-political contexts.
We hope that this festival will grow over time and become a strategic one for Bucharest, making choreographic creation what the National Theatre Festival, TIFF and the George Enescu International Festival do for theater, film and music.
Specifically, this year we are thinking about the relationship we have with you and we invite you to write together the stories that follow. In a few years, Sala Omnia is to be our home, a welcoming and generous space for as many of us as possible, but also – we promise – one of the most effervescent cultural spaces in Bucharest. We badly need this space to make up for what we have been unable to do all these years without our own premises that are adequate in relation to the multitude, complexity and diversity of our projects. We are sure that the Sala Omnia will bring us together and bring back the joy of continuing together. Until then, we invite you to continue the dialog between bodies, emotions and ideas in spaces such as the National Theatre, Odeon Theatre, CINETic and in the intimacy of the “Stere Popescu” hall.
The myriad iridescences of ever-changing realities are reflected in the consistency of this edition, which contains more than 20 events taking place throughout the month of November. We are pleased to invite to the Bucharest audience valuable international productions spotted on the international performing arts scene, along with the latest creations of Romanian authors.
